Welcome to Service Business Review.

To outsource or not to outsource, that is the question in this quarters issue of SBR. Deciding to outsource has been likened to getting married: You carefully select a partner and agree to stay together for a long time, and from that point on your fortunes are intertwinedat least until relations get too strained to carry on. According to a Deloitte Consulting report, more than 75% of outsourcing companies say that their customers dont have a solid outsourcing plan.

When it comes to areas of the business that involve direct interaction with the customer, the issue of outsourcing involves all sorts of considerations. Whether it be a cost or capacity consideration, outsourcing and the management of subcontractors is a hot topic today in the service world.

SBR recently sat down with executives from Southern California Edison to get their thoughts on this fascinating subject.
