Together with the announcement of the Microsoft Windows Embedded Handled, Motorola has released a new semi rugged device called the Motorola ES400 – a cutting-edge mobile Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA) running Microsoft’s latest Mobile OS.

Digging into the details reveals that beyond the fancy words, the device still runs Windows Mobile, but it’s the first Enterprise grade to run Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Cool.

Noticeable attributes of this device include a shiny new hardware, still tough, but much smaller and sexier than the usual Symbol MC series, 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 core, resistive VGA touchscreen, fingerprint scanner, barcode scanner, and a trick 3.5G radio that can be user-switched between GSM and CDMA.

On top of the standard OS comes a customized shell by Motorola designed to ease the usage of the commonly required features.

Motorola is pushing Android all over with the Droid smartphones, but that’s for consumers. The fact that the company is constantly releasing new WinMo PDAs/EDAs means good signs for the future of the OS which we’ve recently wrote about in terms of the somewhat “blurred” roadmap…
