The Starter Kit Concept and Working in the ClickAppStore

ClickSoftware’s notion of Starter Kits is unique and significantly reduces the time to market and level of technical skills required to build a mobile business solution. Part of the ClickAppStore repository, Starter Kits are full working solutions which offer a range of minimal to rich functionality, and in which all settings are preset with default values. Tasked to develop a mobile business solution, you enter ClickSoftware's Mobility Studio and begin by selecting a Starter Kit that best fits the mobile role’s and industry needs, and bring it to the workbench. Using the no-coding drag and drop wizards of the Mobility Studio, you can attach and remove Apps to and from the Starter Kit, configure their parameters and adjust the workflows. As you make changes, a working solution is maintained at all times and you can view its behavior. Eventually, the WISIK (“When I see it I’ll Know it”) point is reached, which is the point when you are ready to package, test, and deploy the application.

There is always the option of building specific apps from scratch using Microsoft’s Visual Studio with standard.Net development languages and the ClickMobile Development Kit, or using HTML5, which is currently supported by most micro-browsers and is rapidly gaining wide acceptance. Such new Apps may be added to the ClickAppStore by a third party and made available to the public. Training on starter Kits and ClickSoftware’s trademarked WISIK implementation methodology is included among the ClickAppStore offerings.

Each Starter Kit is pre-integrated with all of the required “plumbing” for business mobility; back-office integration, server-side and its databases, as well as basic elements of the user interface (UI). Available options in the ClickAppStore include Sybase’s Mobile Platform (SMP: iAnywhere, Afaria, and SUP) for connectivity and back office integration, and SQLServer, Oracle, SybaseSQL Anywhere for Data Bases. Online and offline modes of working are fully supported, allowing users to work in areas with no reception, with automatic synchronization as connectivity is re-established. ClickAppStore also offers apps to facilitate the usage of the mobile device features inside business applications; such as the built-in camera, barcode and credit card reader.

The ClickAppStore currently offers two Starter Kits:

1) The ClickMobile Starter Kit for industries with field service and asset management workforces, covering most of the functionality required by individuals and crews – deployment requiring only configuration of existing functions.

2) The Minimal (Base-Line) Starter Kit for developers of mobile business applications in other industries, who prefer to start from only the “bare bones” – all that is absolutely necessary for a mobile business solution to be “minimally functional”.
